Silent Movie

Subject: Spelling

This is an original version of the popular Word Chain game. Its difference from the classic variant is the players do not say words, but mime them.

Skills: Speaking, Listening.

Level: A1

Recommended Age: 10+

Number of Participants: 4-12 players.

Time: 15-25 minutes.

Place: Any.

Equipment: Not required.

Materials: Not required.

Preliminary Preparation:  Not required.

Immediate Preparation (1-2 minutes). Make sure that the players are familiar with the Word Chain game.

How to Play. First Player A comes to the front of the class. Next you say a starting word, e.g.:'Light!'. Player A thinks of a word, beginning with the letter T, and mimes it. The other players try to guess the word like this:

Player В: Is it 'train'?

Player А: No, it isn't.

Player C: Is it 'taxi'?

Player А: No, it isn't.

Player D: Is it 'tram'?

Player А: Yes, it is.

As a result, Player D gets 1 point, comes to the front of the class and mimes a word, beginning with the letter M. Now it is Player E's turn to make the first guess and so on. The game lasts as long as each player, at least once, acts as a leader. At the end, the gained points are counted up. The winner is the player to get the most points in total.
