Ping-Pong

Subject: Spelling + There is

This is another version of the popular Hangman game. Its difference from the classical variant is one team traditionally guesses the word by letters and other team finds the letters, which this word does not contain.

Skills: Speaking.

Level: A1

Recommended Age: 10+

Number of Participants: 2-12 players, preferably even.

Time: 10-15 minutes.

Place: Classroom.

Equipment: Board.

Materials: A piece of chalk / a marker.

Preliminary Preparation: Not required.

Immediate Preparation (3-5 minutes). First make sure that the players are familiar with the Hangman game. Next think of a long word (e.g.'information') and draw it with dashes on the board. Then divide the class into halves.

How to Play. The game may start like this:

Team А: Is there 'a' in this word?

You: Yes, there is.

You write the letter a on the board like this:

_ _ _ _ _ _ а _ _ _ _

Team B: Is there 'z' in this word?

You: No, there isn't.

You write the letter z on the board like this:

 _ _ _ _ _ _ а _ _ _ _

z

Team А: Is there 'e' in this word?

You: No, there isn't.

You write the letter e on the board like this:

 _ _ _ _ _ _ а _ _ _ _

z e

and so on.

The game lasts as long as either Team A has guessed the word or Team B has found the corresponding number of non-existant letters (in the given case 11). The winner is the team to faster complete its task.
