Ping-Pong

Subject: Spelling + There is

This is an original version of the popular Hangman game.

Skills: Speaking.

Level: A1

Recommended Age: 10+

Participants Number: 6-12 players, preferably even.

Time: 10-15 minutes.

Place: Classroom.

Equipment: Board.

Materials: A piece of chalk / A marker.

Preliminary Preparation: Not required.

Immediate Preparation (3-5 minutes): Think of a long word (e.g. 'information') and draw it with spaces on the board. Next divide the group into two teams. Team A traditionally guesses the word by letters, and Team B try to find letters, which do not exist in this word.

How to Play. The teams take turns to name letters, e.g. like this:

Team А: Is there 'a' in this word?

You: Yes, there is.

After that, you write on the board:

_ _ _ _ _ _ а _ _ _ _

Team B: Is there 'z' in this word?

You: No, there isn't.

After that, you write on the board:

 _ _ _ _ _ _ а _ _ _ _

z

Team А: Is there 'e' in this word?

You: No, there isn't.

After that, you write on the board:

 _ _ _ _ _ _ а _ _ _ _

z e

and so on.

The game lasts as long as Team A guessed the word or Team B found the corresponding number of non-existant letters (in this case 11). The winner is the team to faster complete its task. If Team B coped with it in the next go after Team A, a dead heat is announced.
