Mushroom Rain

Subject: Vocabulary

Skills: Listening.

Level: A1

Recommended Age: 6-8 y.o.

Participants Number: 8-12 players.

Time: 20-30 minutes.

Place: Playground.

Equipment: Not required.

Materials: Pieces of chalk by number of participants.

Preliminary Preparation: Not required.

Immediate Preparation (10-15 minutes): Provide each child with a piece of chalk, disperse them on the playground and ask to draw circles around themselves, which represent mushrooms caps. Next ask each player to choose if his/her ‘mushroom edible or inedible’. Those, who decide that their mushrooms are inedible, must draw spots ‘on their caps’, pretending they are fly-agarics.

How to Play. The children begin to ‘walk in the forest among the mushrooms’. Suddenly you call out, e.g.: 'It's going to rain with potatoes!'. After that, the players have to ‘hide from the rain under the caps of edible mushrooms’, i.e. to run into the corresponding circles. If you shout out, e.g.: 'It's going to rain with balls!', the children must ‘hide under caps of inedible mushrooms’ and so on. When you are sure that the players understand the rules, start the contest. In this, the child to last run in a right circle or to run in a wrong circle, is out of the game. It lasts as long as only the winner remains.
