Hidden Letter

Subject: Spelling

 

Skills: Listening, Speaking, Writing.

Level: A2

Recommended Age: 12+

Participants Number: 6-10 players.

Time: 20-25 minutes.

Place: Classroom.

Equipment: Board.

Materials: A piece of chalk / a marker.

Preliminary Preparation (5-10 minutes): Pick a letter, e.g. 'R'. Next select 5 words, containing this letter. In order to 'hide' the letter better, you should choose the words in such a way, that they contain as many the same letters as possible, e.g.: architect, cathedaral, daughter, theatre, weather.

Immediate Preparation (2-3 minutes): Read your list out to the players and ask them to guess the 'hidden' letter.

How to Play. The game may start like this:

Player А: Is it 'T'?

You: No, it isn't.

Player B: Is it 'E'?

You: No, it isn't.

Player C: Is it 'H'?

You: No, it isn't.

Player D: Is it 'A'?

You: No, it isn't.

Player E: Is it 'R'?

You: Yes, it is.

Thereby Player E gets 5 points by the number of attempt. Next ask each player to think of a letter and to select 5 words, containing it. When everybody is ready, Player A starts to read out his/her list. Now this is Player B's turn to make the first attempt to guess the letter and so on. The game lasts as long as all the guessed letters are revealed. The winner is the player to get the most points.
