This game is specially designed for the last lesson before Christmas.
Skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading.
Recommended Age: 10+
Number of Participants: 2-12 players, preferably even or multiple to 3.
Time: 20-25 minutes.
Equipment: Scissors; 26 magnets; Board.
Materials: Paper of different colours; A piece of chalk / a marker.
Preliminary Preparation (10-15 minutes). Cut 26 Christmas balls from the paper and write the alphabet letters on them.
Immediate Preparation (5-10 minutes). First draw a Chistmas tree on the board and pin up the 'balls' to it. Next divide the class into 2 or 3 teams. Then start to spell a word, related to Christmas, e.g.:'W-I-N...'. The player to first call out:'Winter!', comes to the board and takes a 'ball' for his/her team. After that, you begin to spell another word and so on. When there are no 'balls' on the 'Chistmas tree', you ask the teams to make words from the 'gained' letters. While the players are doing this, you wipe the 'tree' off the board and make columns on it by the number of teams.
How to Play. When the teams are ready, their 'secretaries' come to the board, pin up their 'balls' at the top of their columns and write their words under them. The rivals carefully check the spelling. The winner of the game is the team to write the most correct words in its column.
