Ideas for English Lessons

Subject: Geometric shapes

Skills: Listening.

Level: A2

Recommended Age: 10-12 y.o.

Participants Number: 8-12 players, preferably even.

Time: 20-30 minutes.

Place: Playground.

Equipment: Not required.

Materials: Two sticks of chalk.

Preliminary Preparation: Not required.

Immediate Preparation (5-10 minutes): Draw two rectangles about 2 m high and 3 m wide at one end of the playground. Draw a starting line at the other end and put the children behind it. Draw geometric shapes in front of the starting line and write their names. Introduce the shapes to the children. Next divide them into two teams and line each up in a row. Provide the front players with the sticks of chalk, which also serves as batons.

How to Play. You call out, e.g.: 'Circle!'. The first players run to their ‘carpets’ and draw a circle on them. After their returning, you command, e.g.: 'Triangle!' and so on. You can repeat the words as many times as you wish. The winner of the game is the first team to finish the relay race in case of their correct drawing shapes. Otherwise, the victory goes over to the other team.
